Overview

Synthetic iron oxides are the second-largest pigment family after titanium dioxide. Red is ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃), yellow is iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) and black is magnetite (Fe₃O₄). Blending them gives browns, tans and terracotta shades. They are non-toxic, lightfast, weather-resistant and stable in the alkaline environment of cement.

That combination makes iron oxides the standard colourant for concrete pavers, roof tiles and coloured mortar, as well as primers, industrial paints, plastics and ceramics. Synthetic grades are purer, brighter and more consistent than natural ochres, which matters when a project needs every batch of pavers to match.

Questions

Iron Oxide Pigments, answered.

Iron oxide pigment is typically added at 2–5% of the cement weight. Colour strength stops increasing beyond about 5–6%, and very high levels can affect concrete strength, so dosages above that are rarely economical.

Synthetic iron oxides are manufactured under controlled conditions, giving higher purity, brighter colour, higher tinting strength and better batch-to-batch consistency than natural ochres and siennas.

Yellow iron oxide is an oxyhydroxide that begins to lose water above about 180 °C and turns red. For high-temperature uses such as some plastics and coil coatings, heat-stable grades or other yellow pigments are used.

Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Iron Oxide Pigments from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the paints, inks & coatings and plastic & rubber industries. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.

Every shipment of Iron Oxide Pigments from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
