Mica

Mica is a platy silicate mineral used as a functional filler in paints, plastics and rubber, and as the base of pearlescent pigments in cosmetics.

Wet & dry ground
01

Overview

Mica's thin, flexible flakes reinforce paint films, improve barrier and weather resistance, and reduce cracking. In plastics it raises stiffness and dimensional stability; in electrical products it insulates.

Wet-ground and micronised grades are used in coatings and cosmetics, where mica gives sheen and slip and is coated with metal oxides to make pearlescent pigments.
