Overview

In rubber, precipitated silica reinforces compounds and, in 'green' tyres, lowers rolling resistance. In paints and coatings it mattes, thickens and prevents settling; in toothpaste it is an abrasive and thickener.

Its high absorption makes it an excellent carrier for liquids and an anti-caking agent in powders and feed. Grades differ in surface area and oil absorption.
