Overview
Ammonia is a gas at room temperature, so it is stored and shipped as a liquid under pressure. In water treatment it is dosed with chlorine to form chloramines, a longer-lasting residual disinfectant for distribution networks, and it is used to raise pH in some industrial circuits.
Beyond water, ammonia is the building block for nitrogen fertilisers, nitric acid, amines and many other chemicals, and it is used as a refrigerant. Purity and moisture content are the key specification points.
