Overview
Magnesium is the central atom of chlorophyll, so deficiency shows as yellowing between leaf veins and reduces yield, particularly in fruit, vegetables, plantation crops and on sandy or acidic soils. Magnesium sulphate corrects it while also supplying sulphur.
Heptahydrate (Epsom salt, about 9.6% Mg) dissolves completely and is used in fertigation, hydroponics and foliar sprays. Monohydrate (about 16% Mg) is more concentrated and is used for soil application and blending. Feed grades supply magnesium in animal diets.
Applications
- 1Fertigation and hydroponics (heptahydrate)
- 2Foliar feeding to correct magnesium deficiency
- 3Soil application and blending (monohydrate)
- 4Magnesium supplement in animal feed
- 5Bath salts and other industrial uses

Questions
Magnesium Sulphate, answered.
Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate dissolves fully and quickly, making it the choice for fertigation, hydroponics and foliar sprays. Monohydrate contains more magnesium per kilogram and suits soil application and fertiliser blending.
Magnesium deficiency typically shows as yellowing between the veins of older leaves while the veins stay green, followed by reduced growth and yield.
