Overview
NPEs are effective, low-cost surfactants in a range of ethoxylation degrees (e.g. NP-4 to NP-40). Lower moles give oil-soluble emulsifiers; higher moles give water-soluble detergents and wetting agents.
Their use is restricted in some markets, notably the EU, because of environmental concerns; alcohol ethoxylates are common alternatives.
