Overview
Povidone-iodine releases iodine gradually from a polyvinylpyrrolidone complex, killing bacteria, viruses and fungi while being gentler than iodine tincture. It is the familiar brown antiseptic of surgery and first aid.
It is supplied as a brown powder (~9–12% available iodine) in pharmacopoeia grade.
