Overview
SMCA introduces the carboxymethyl group into cellulose, starch and other molecules — the key step in making CMC. It is also used to make amphoteric surfactants such as betaines, thioglycolic acid and agrochemicals.
It is a free-flowing white powder, preferred over the acid where easier handling is needed.
