Sulfathiazole is a broad-spectrum sulfonamide antibiotic used primarily for treating bacterial infections. It inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with folic acid synthesis, making it effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Although its systemic use has declined due to newer antibiotics, Sulfathiazole is still used in topical creams, powders, and veterinary formulations for wound care and infection prevention. It is also a key ingredient in some combination antibiotic therapies.
