Overview

Hydrochloric acid is a solution of hydrogen chloride gas in water, commonly sold at 30–33% concentration. It is mostly co-produced in chlor-alkali and chlorination plants. It is a strong, fast-acting acid whose chloride salts are almost all water-soluble, which makes it ideal for cleaning and dissolving jobs.

Steel mills use it to pickle away mill scale before galvanising or cold rolling. Water treatment plants use it to regenerate cation exchange resins and to adjust pH. Oilfields pump diluted, inhibited blends down wells to dissolve carbonate rock and improve flow. It also goes into food processing, gelatin, calcium chloride and many other chemicals.

Questions

Hydrochloric Acid, answered.

Matrix acidising usually uses about 15% hydrochloric acid, prepared by diluting 30–33% acid with water and adding corrosion inhibitors, iron control agents and surfactants. Higher or lower strengths are used depending on the formation.

Yes. Hydrochloric acid ships as UN 1789, Class 8 (corrosive), Packing Group II, in UN-approved carboys, drums or IBCs.

HDPE, FRP with a suitable resin liner, PVC and rubber-lined steel are used for hydrochloric acid. It attacks carbon steel and most stainless steels, so metal storage is unsuitable.

Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Hydrochloric Acid from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the water treatment, mining & oil drilling and basic industrial chemicals industries. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.

Every shipment of Hydrochloric Acid from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
