Overview

Hydrogen peroxide breaks down to water and oxygen, which makes it one of the cleanest oxidisers available — it leaves no salts or chlorinated by-products. That is why it has replaced chlorine bleaches in many textile and pulp processes, and why it is used to destroy cyanide in gold mine tailings and to cut COD and odour in effluent.

It is stabilised during manufacture so it keeps its strength in storage, but it decomposes quickly if contaminated with metals, dirt or alkali. Containers are vented for that reason. 50% grade halves freight per unit of active oxygen; 35% grade is easier and safer to handle on site.

Applications

  • 1Bleaching of cotton and cellulosic textiles
  • 2Pulp and paper bleaching
  • 3COD, odour and colour reduction in effluent (including Fenton's process)
  • 4Cyanide destruction in gold mining tailings
  • 5Chemical synthesis — epoxidation and peroxygen chemicals
  • 6Disinfection and sterilisation (special grades)

Questions

Hydrogen Peroxide, answered.

50% hydrogen peroxide contains about 40% more active oxygen per kilogram than 35%, so it is cheaper to ship per unit of activity. 35% is easier and safer to handle and is preferred by smaller users and in hot climates. Both are diluted on site to working strength.

Hydrogen peroxide slowly decomposes to water and oxygen, and contamination speeds this up. Vented caps release the oxygen so pressure cannot build up inside the carboy or IBC.

Yes. Hydrogen peroxide solutions of 20–60% ship as UN 2014, Class 5.1 (oxidiser) with Class 8 (corrosive) subsidiary risk, Packing Group II.

Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Hydrogen Peroxide from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the water treatment, mining & oil drilling, basic industrial chemicals and food ingredients industries. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.

Every shipment of Hydrogen Peroxide from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
