Overview
Native maize starch thickens and gels when cooked, which makes it a staple food ingredient and the base of many adhesives. Pre-gelatinised and modified starches are used in drilling muds to control fluid loss, especially in salt-saturated systems.
Paper mills use starch for surface sizing and strength; textile mills for warp sizing. Food grade starch is supplied with microbiological limits.

- 1Food thickener and binder
- 2Drilling mud fluid-loss control
- 3Paper sizing and corrugating adhesives
