Overview

Soda ash, Na₂CO₃, is one of the most widely used industrial chemicals. It is produced as a fine light grade and as a dense grade with larger, heavier granules. The chemistry is the same; what differs is bulk density and particle size, which decide how it handles, blends and dusts.

Dense soda ash dominates glass making, where it must blend evenly with sand without segregating or dusting in the furnace. Light soda ash dissolves faster and is preferred in detergents, sodium silicate and chemical manufacture. In mining it adjusts flotation pulp pH, and in water treatment it raises alkalinity and softens hard water.

Packing & storage

Packing

  • 25 kg & 50 kg PP/PE bags
  • 1000–1200 kg jumbo bags

Storage & handling

Store dry. Soda ash absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air and will cake if bags are damaged. It is not classed as dangerous goods but is an eye irritant.

Questions

Soda Ash, answered.

Light and dense soda ash are chemically identical sodium carbonate. Light soda ash has a bulk density of about 0.5–0.65 g/cm³ and dissolves quickly; dense soda ash is about 0.9–1.1 g/cm³ with larger granules that flow well and produce less dust.

Dense soda ash has a particle size close to that of glass sand, so the batch mixes evenly and does not segregate. It also produces far less dust in the furnace, reducing carry-over and refractory attack.

No. Soda ash is not regulated as dangerous goods for sea freight. It is an eye irritant, so dust masks and goggles are recommended when handling it.

Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Soda Ash from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the water treatment, mining & oil drilling and basic industrial chemicals industries. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.

Every shipment of Soda Ash from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
