Overview
Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) delivers chlorine in liquid form, without the hazards of handling chlorine gas. In water it forms hypochlorous acid, the active species that kills bacteria and viruses and oxidises iron, manganese, sulphide and organic colour. It is the simplest way to add a disinfectant residual to drinking water and to sanitise effluent before discharge.
Hypochlorite is inherently unstable: it loses strength over time, and faster with heat, sunlight and metal contamination. Product is made with a small excess of caustic soda to slow decomposition, and the available chlorine is measured at dispatch. For long transit routes or hot climates, calcium hypochlorite is often the more practical choice.
Applications
- 1Disinfection of drinking water and distribution networks
- 2Disinfection of treated effluent before discharge
- 3Swimming pool and spa sanitation
- 4Bleaching of cotton and textiles
- 5Cleaning-in-place sanitation in food and dairy plants
- 6Base for household bleach products

Questions
Sodium Hypochlorite, answered.
Sodium hypochlorite loses available chlorine steadily, faster at higher temperature and concentration and in sunlight. Stored cool and dark, it is best used within one to three months of manufacture. Available chlorine is measured at dispatch so buyers can plan dosing.
Yes. Hypochlorite solution ships as UN 1791, Class 8 (corrosive), in vented packaging that lets the oxygen released by decomposition escape safely.
Sodium hypochlorite is easiest to dose as a liquid and suits plants near the point of manufacture. Calcium hypochlorite carries six times more chlorine per kilogram and is much more stable in storage, so it is usually preferred for long export routes, remote sites and hot climates.
Yes. Cosmo Chemistry manufactures and exports Sodium Hypochlorite from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in the water treatment, mining & oil drilling and basic industrial chemicals industries. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.
Every shipment of Sodium Hypochlorite from Cosmo Chemistry includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
